Supreme Court vs President Noynoy

The most recent indication that this government will not be smoothly moving onward at all is when the Supreme Court decided that the Executive Order # 1 creating the so-called Truth Commission of Pnoy is unconstitutional. The reason is that the order, SC said, violates the equal protection clause of the Constitution as it only singled out for investigation the alleged anomalies of past administration of Pres. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

Needless to say that this showed the unpleasant relation of the SC and MalacaƱang Palace. Earlier, SC blocked by issuing Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) on the move of Pnoy to deal with past administration's midnight appointees. Interestingly, the current Chief Justice was one of those described here as one of the midnight appointees. So whether this recent issue resulted from pure dissenting opinion of the two highest bodies on the land or not, I really don't know.

But if you ask the people - those of us who want to know the real scores of various scandals allegedly committed during the past administration, you would get an impression that there really is a need to create an independent body to dig deeper and probably make those involved in the scams answer accordingly. And to know the truth, by the way, is also constitutional.
